Time Flies

I am starting my library internship this week, and have been given the opportunity to complete another 11.5 things. I am not going to do it for credit because I don't think that I can get everything done in the time given. I want to be able to take my time and really focus on the task at hand.
Come back to see what I have created during my next exploration of Web 2.0

New Beginnings

A friend asked for this url and as I was getting ready to send it to her, I realized that I hadn't written anything since May! I guess I need to remind myself to update this more often. Here's what's been happening...

On my third librarian interview, I was offered a position! Of course I took it and have LOVED it ever since. I am in a bilingual school with 850 students. I work with K-2 students on a rotation basis and then I fill in the rest of my day with mini lessons for 3-5th grades. It has been an exciting adventure. I was able to interview for my library aide as well, and have found an amazing person who works extremely hard! We have similar ideas and get along extremely well. I love the fact that I can be out of the building for a meeting and not have to worry about what will happen to the library. I have also started a 2nd blog that describes the ins and outs of a first year librarian. If you are interested in seeing it, drop me a message and I will forward you the link.

Another year

I moved here in 1999. I remember telling a former principal that I probably wouldn't make it to 5 years of teaching. At the time I wasn't convinced that this was the profession for me. Now it's 2009 and I am 4 days away from completing my 10th year! Where has the time gone?! I am working on two different adventures. I am continuing my education in Library Sciences, as you already know by reading my posts, and I am going to be teaching kindergarten next year. That is, if I don't receive a position as a librarian. My degree is in Early Childhood Education and I have been hinting for years that I would like to move down, and how here is my chance. I'm excited to be molding young children into lifelong learners. I am looking forward to seeing lights come on daily! That is the whole reason I went into teaching in the first place. I love to see children light up when they learn something new and tell everyone about it. I want my parents next year to come up to me and say that their children are so excited to come to school each day. I never want a child to go home and say "nothing" when asked what they learned in school that day.
Our science scores were lower than expected this year and so the focus is going down as low as kindergarten. I am going to be in charge of writing the science lesson plans, so I am already looking for suppimentary activities to help advance our students.

Excited!

I am SO excited!!! I have been given the opportunity to interview for my first librarian position! I'm nervous since I have only had 3 classes under my belt, but I am also excited to be starting the next phase of my career. This position is opening up after the Christmas break, so I would have to sacrifice losing an amazing group of second graders. They make me think, smile, and laugh every day! I worry about how the rest of their school year would go. Will they get an amazing teacher that will push them beyond what they are capable of, or will they get some "shmoe" off the street that will allow their behavior, which I have worked so hard to get under control, to go right out the window? I worry about them and want the best for them! Ultimately though, I need to look out for myself and what is in my best interest to be happy and changing schools and districts may be what I need to do right now.

Can't stay away

I started this whole process July 15,2008 and now less than a month later I have completed 22 postings. Even though I had to do this activity for a grade I am so glad that I had the opportunity to do it. Now that we have permission to take parts of 23 things back to our campuses, I would like to talk to my principal about doing a workshop with our staff. Maybe I will start them out with something small like a wiki. My hope is that our librarian will help me with setting it all up and getting it started.
I couldn't stay away today, so now that I have my "blog fix" I can move on! Have an outstanding day!

thing 23!

I have used this adjective many times throughout this process, but this has been AMAZING!!! I am so excited about all of the new things that I have learned! I can't wait to go back to my school and share it ALL with the rest of the staff and my students! I highly recommend going through the 23 Things...although completing it in 4 weeks is taxing!!! Web 2.0 has amazing (there I go again) tools to use in the classroom and in the library.
Feel free to check back to my blog from time to time. I plan on posting some of the dare I say...amazing...activities that we have done in the classroom.
